Botanical pottery · Kolkata

Vessels that carry the garden indoors.

Atelier Fern shapes small-batch stoneware and porcelain — glazed in the greens of ferns, moss and fiddleheads, and thrown one evening at a time.

Studio hours · Wed–Sun, 11:00–19:00 · 14 Ballygunge Place

The craft

Slow work, in full sun by the window

01

Local clay

Sourced from Rajkot producers and Bengal river clay, wedged and rested before any wheel work.

02

Glazes grown from plants

Every glaze name is a plant — celadon fiddlehead, moss matte, crackle nightbloom — mixed in studio batches.

03

Fired twice

Bisque at 950°C, glaze firings to 1,230°C in a single small kiln — twelve tall pieces, three quiet days.

Questions

Before you write

Do pieces go online?

No. The collection is sold from the studio and through the Friday letter; commissioned pieces are discussed in person or over email.

How do commissions begin?

With a note describing the piece and the room it's for. The studio replies with sketches, glaze options and a timeline, usually within a week.

Do you ship?

Domestic shipping is couriered in padded clay crates; international shipping is possible for non-glazed cookware only.

Is there a mailing list?

Yes — the Friday letter lists new pieces and workshop dates first. Names are never shared; unsubscribe is one tap.
